Murray's Match

'Murray's Match' is a soccer-aid style charity football match in memory of one of Stirling Albion’s biggest fans, Murray Dowey.

‘Murray’s Match’ will see the Dunblane teenager’s family and friends take to the pitch at 3pm on Sunday 29 September, with ticket sales going towards three local mental health projects.

Causes benefitting from the fundraising fixture at Forthbank include the Scott Martin Foundation and Back Onside; two local charities with a shared goal of improving youth mental health through sport. Funds will also go towards running dedicated football and mental health sessions for young people at Stirling Albion.

“Murray was a kind and funny boy who was hugely passionate about his local team, the Binos,” said his mum, Ros Dowey. “This event is a lovely way to celebrate who he was and raise funds for local mental health and sports charities, who will ensure that young people who are struggling receive the support they need.”

The match, organised by a group of local volunteers including Murray’s former PE teacher Emma Blackstock, will take place three days after what would have been Murray’s 17th birthday.

The two sides will be bolstered by some of Stirling Albion’s professional players, as well as Scotland Rugby Internationalist George Horne and Dundee United midfielder Lewis O'Donnell – a former Dunblane High pupil.

Active Stirling has generously gifted the use of Forthbank Stadium for the event and the club’s Mini Binos will keep the crowd entertained at half time.
